An Unrivaled Wildlife Experience.

A new fire deck, a collection of private dining pods, and a walk-in wine cellar have been added to Wilderness Mombo, one of Botswana's most renowned game watching locations, further enhancing its opulent guest experiences under the direction of Artichoke Interior Design. These additional locations provide fascinating alternatives from which to enjoy Mombo's excellent cuisine and wine selection and have broad views of the surrounding plains.

Tshupo BoyBoy Seselamarumo (BB), Wilderness Mombo General Manager, is passionate about bringing guests to discover Botswana’s pristine wilderness. “Mombo’s prime position in the Okavango Delta’s Moremi Game Reserve offers our guests an unrivaled wildlife experience, whether on game drives, close encounters on nature walks, or from the air on a helicopter safari. We are very proud to complement this with our in-camp offering and to elevate our guest experience with these new additions to the camp”, noted BB.

Mombo Wine Tasting

To maximize the uninterrupted views across the Mombo floodplain, the new eating pods have been thoughtfully placed as a natural extension of the camp. Also, they provide visitors with a wide range of adaptable eating options, from intimate settings to meals shared with loved ones. This provides the perfect setting for showcasing Mombo's culinary legacy, which is centered on authentic African products and relevant to its surroundings.

By working with neighborhood farmers and craftsmen, Mombo's cuisine honors regional heritage foods like baobab, millet, ditloo (black eyed peas), and morogo, a leafy green that is related to kale. This reduces the "food footprint" of the camp. A Chief's Platter and a Lechwe Haven Platter have been added to the lunch menu by executive chef Tonderai Chipfupi. The Chief's Platter honors Botswana's slow-braised beef meal, Seswaa, while the Lechwe Haven Platter combines African flavors with truffle fries and a dab of baobab mayo on top of a small pumpkin and sorghum salad.

Local Botswana furniture manufacturer WoodLogic and Artichoke Interior Design collaborated to build Mombo's new walk-in wine cellar on site. With wines sourced from smaller, more environmentally friendly, frequently family-owned wine farms like Delaire Graff Estate and Ken Forrester Vineyards, Wilderness' famous wine concept is inextricably related to the company's success.

Mombo DIning

Alfred Muswaka, Wilderness Mombo Sommelier, hosts informative and entertaining wine-tasting sessions in the cellar, sharing and celebrating Mombo’s curated African wine selection with guests. He notes that “as a leading conservation and hospitality company, our wine selection focuses on Fair Trade producers and sustainable farms which share our values, producing top-class wines that are truly well received by our guests”.

For up to eight guests, sister camp Wilderness Little Mombo provides an intimate safari experience. A new wine cellar and fire deck have just been added, both of which are located closer to the main area. A new private eating area has been created using the former fire deck. Shade roofs are now present on the sitting pods along the pool.

“As our flagship Wilderness camp, which has been part of our portfolio for over 30 years, Mombo is steeped in history. While it will always stay true to the traditions of the original safari camp, we will always strive to continuously enhance our guest experience. We’re looking forward to showcasing our new guest touches to create many more life-changing memories”, BB concludes.
