Discover A New Universe: PROJECT MONDO G
By combining the distinguishing elements of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class with the puffer jacket from Moncler, PROJECT MONDO G recreates the legendary G-Class with Moncler's signature design aesthetic. The artwork was presented for the first time during the Moncler "The Art of Genius" event during London Fashion Week. Mercedes-Benz, which was hosted by Moncler, had a lineup of companies and performers that included Alicia Keys, Pharrell Williams, Adidas Originals, FRGMT, Salehe Bembury, Palm Angels, and ROC NATION by Jay-Z. During an interactive live event at Olympia London, Moncler unveils a new vision for Moncler Genius. converting its paradigm of cooperation into a hub for co-creation in a variety of different industries, including art, technology, athletics, music, and design.
Mercedes-Benz and Moncler share a love of innovation, a clear design aesthetic, and a pioneering spirit when it comes to cross-cultural partnerships. These characteristics and ideals characterise both partners, who have come together to show off the creative possibilities and the directions that the fusion of the worlds of the two companies might go. The motivating message of the subject "Art of Imagination" is to explore one's own firsts, break new ground, and put the seemingly unattainable within grasp. The first automobile collaboration for Moncler is PROJECT MONDO G, a collaborative artwork.
"We are very excited about collaborating with Moncler to create another ‘X-factor brand moment’. At Mercedes-Benz, we are committed to engage in culture and society. Our co-creation with Moncler offers an unexpected experience of both brands. This debut collaboration with Moncler opens new horizons and a potential of opportunities for more news to come soon.” Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, responsible for Marketing & Sales
The artwork was created especially for the partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Moncler and combines the distinguishing qualities of the classic Moncler puffer jacket with the legendary Mercedes-Benz off-roader G-Class. Creating a stunning contrast between the G-aggressive Class's shape and the quilted fabric's soft, flowing contours. Both useful objects are distinctive and unique, with functionality at their heart. Throughout the years, they have evolved into luxury lifestyle items. A sculptural item is created by the merging of opposites: PROJECT MONDO G encourages you to see the evolution of an object from pure use to design. 4.6 m in length, 2.8 m in height, 3.4 m in width (with wheels), and 2.5 tonnes in weight are its astounding measurements.
The rough patina is the obvious evidence of use, which refers to usefulness and practicality. A deeper inspection exposes further distinguishing characteristics that have a direct relationship to the original items and further generate intriguing contrasts. The immaculate, high-gloss surfaces that support the notion of luxury are visually offset by this. Another purposefully noticeable and eye-catching feature on the PROJECT MONDO G is the enormous zip, which is not there by accident. The practical allusion to the zip refers to the adaptability and variety of both the car and the jacket as products.
“The collaboration with Moncler inspired us to create a real iconic sculpture on wheels – a very bold design statement: our PROJECT MONDO G. Based on our design philosophy Sensual Purity, this art piece merges extremely contrasting forms and surfaces: spacecraft shiny materials with a used patina look; strong geometry of the G-Class with organic forms of Moncler puffer jackets. Two strong luxury brands offer an extraordinary new experience by combining automotive and fashion world united in one piece. Because of over-dimensional and exaggerated language of forms it’s polarizing art to set new impulses and trends.” Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Mercedes-Benz Group AG
The 1979-born Mercedes-Benz G-Class has its roots in both the industrial and governmental sectors as well as in the exploration of difficult terrain. With the G-Class, Mercedes-Benz forayed into unknown waters in 1979. The off-road vehicle was created for both difficult daily usage, such as in the industrial or municipal sectors, and as a mode of transportation with exceptional off-road characteristics and a focus on pleasure. Soon after it hit the market, a continual improvement process started. It is the secret of the G's enduring popularity as an independent icon.
