Feadship: It is Not Always About Size.
On Saturday, May 20, Feadship took home three important awards at the 2023 BOAT International World Superyacht Awards (WSA). In a hotly contested category, Callisto outperformed her opponents to win the Neptune trophy for "best semi-displacement motoryacht 42m and above," while Shinkai was given a Neptune to signify a Judges' Special Prize. Juice, Feadship's third nomination, also won a reward in the form of a Judges' Commendation.
“Nowadays Feadship is known for large custom yachts of the finest quality, but the two Neptunes and the Judges’ Commendation at this year’s World Superyacht Awards gala show that it is not always about size,” said Bas Nederpelt, Feadship Sales Director, who attended the 18th annual edition of the BOAT International World Superyacht Awards, held in Istanbul, Turkey, on May 19 and 20, 2023. The world's finest luxury boats are honoured with the World Superyachts Awards for their inventiveness and workmanship.
Callisto: good looks and the highest standards
Callisto's owners, who also own a beloved 65-metre Feadship with the same name that debuted in 2006, wanted to downsize and find a boat that could capture as many of the qualities they cherished about their previous Feadship as possible. The new boat kept some of her vintage Feadship designs and gave her a more contemporary edge and personality. The judges gave her the coveted Neptune award for the biggest of the semi-displacement and planning classes because they considered that her attractive appearance, the finest standards of building, and the owners' obvious joy with their new Callisto were extremely strong reasons to do so.
Shinkai: extraordinarily capable explorer
The judges discover that although many superyachts are labelled "expedition yachts" by their builders, few actually fit the requirements of a boat built to explore the waters from the tropics to high latitudes. With the 54.90-meter Shinkai, this was certainly not the case. Her global cruising grounds include arctic and undiscovered regions, as well as the ocean's depths, necessitating the installation of forward-looking 3D sonar, FLIR night-vision cameras, and seafloor-charting technology in order to aid navigation in new seas. The judges were so amazed by Shinkai's ability to truly go anywhere that they all agreed to give her a Neptune as a Judges' Special Award.
Juice: superb build quality
Juice's slender outside lines impressed the judges, who also praised the way the exterior staircases leading to the higher decks were set apart from the superstructure to allow more light within. The judges believed that a commendation should be given for such excellent construction quality and attention to detail.
“We are very proud of our clients’ trust to build a Feadship in case their dream is to own a swift but comfortable bespoke yacht as 42.50-metre Callisto; a true go-anywhere full custom expedition yacht such as the 54.90-metre Shinkai; or an archetypal, very refined, and timeless 71.10-metre Juice”, commented Nederpelt, receiving the Neptunes on stage.
