Mekong River; A Fascinating Destination
The boat will join its identical sister ship, the Viking Saigon, which made her debut in 2022, and will travel between Kampong Cham, Cambodia, and Mỹ Tho, Vietnam, as part of Viking's renowned 15-day Magnificent Mekong tour. The vessel can accommodate a total of 80 guests and was designed specifically for the Mekong River.
The ship is now in the process of being built, and its launch is anticipated to take place in October of 2025. As a result of the significant interest in Mekong River cruises, Viking has extended the number of departures it offers in 2025 and is now accepting reservations for the full 2026 season.
“The rich history and culture of Vietnam and Cambodia have always made the Mekong River a fascinating destination for our guests,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking. “With the addition of an identical sister ship in 2025, we look forward to introducing even more curious travellers to the treasures of this fantastic region in the years to come.”
The new Viking Tonle was constructed so that it could travel the Mekong River, and it will have a capacity for 80 passengers throughout its 40 outdoor staterooms. All of Viking's cabins contain mattresses similar to those seen in hotels, as well as floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that open out onto a veranda or French balcony. Viking is recognised for its minimalistic, Scandinavian decor. In addition, the Spa & Fitness Centre, Pool, and open-air Sky Bar are all available to guests on the Upper Deck of the Viking Tonle, which has three decks.
Guests go on 16 different guided excursions around Vietnam and Cambodia during the course of this excursion, which lasts for a total of 15 days. An eight-day cruise down the Mekong River sits between hotel stays in Hanoi, Siem Reap, and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) on this unique itinerary. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the Old Quarter of Hanoi and watch a performance by Apsara dancers; sample distinctive fresh ingredients from bustling markets and local restaurants; and explore the Khmer temple complex of Angkor Wat, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During the section of the trip that takes place on the river, visitors will have the opportunity to explore silk towns, fishing villages, monasteries, and floating marketplaces.
