MERCURY RACING: A New Level of Wide Open Power
The launch of the brand-new Mercury Racing V10 400R model increases Mercury Racing's outboard speed punch. The V10 400R outboard motor provides more power and a wider RPM range than any other outboard in this class, and it is mainly intended to propel performance centre console boats and catamarans to speeds well beyond 75 mph. The experience of operating a Wide Open Speed powerboat is further enhanced by a variety of exclusive Mercury Racing features.
"The Mercury Racing team has created a worthy successor to the legendary L6 400R outboard," said Stuart Halley, Mercury Racing general manager. "The V10 400R offers more low-end torque, more peak horsepower, and better fuel economy than the L6, and delivers full power on 87 octane fuel. The new V10 400R delivers the potent performance and drivability that only Mercury Racing can offer."
The new 5.7-litre (349 CID) naturally aspirated V10 powerhead in the Mercury Racing 400R is built on the tried-and-true design of the V8 4.6-litre Mercury Racing 300R model. For seamless installations on new boats and repower applications, the 64-degree powerhead displaces the 5.7 litres while keeping the narrow width needed for 26-inch centre-to-centre mounting on multi-engine transoms. For any single or multi-engine performance configuration, the Mercury Racing V10 400R will be offered in four lengths: 20, 25, 30, and 35 inches.
Deep-Breathing QC4
Double overhead camshafts and four-valve aluminium cylinder heads are part of the Mercury Racing Quad Cam Four Valve (QC4) design. The QC4 head's 92mm throttle body and tuned intake work together to get the most airflow and power out of the engine. The exclusive heavy-duty throttle body servo motor is made to give you instant throttle response. A Mercury Racing fuel pressure sensor gives you precise fueling when you accelerate, which improves throttle response even more. A range of 6000-6600 WOT RPM increases peak horsepower and gives you a lot of room to prop any type of performance hull. This deep-breathing engine uses Transient Spark Technology to digitally change the timing of the sparks to maximise low-end torque and "hole-shot" power without losing top-end horsepower. Advanced Range Optimization uses electronic sensors to fine-tune the fuel mixture at all speeds for the best efficiency. All of this exciting power and performance comes from 87 octane (91 RON) fuel, which is easy to find.
Racing AMS
The exclusive Mercury Racing Advanced MidSection (AMS), which supports the V10 400R and has stiffened engine mounts and precisely fitted heavy-duty guide plates that steady the engine for improved high-speed handling. For rock-solid, ultra-lightweight precision steering on catamaran and other ultra-high-speed uses, an optional back tie-bar bracket built into the Racing AMS is available. Additionally, the Racing AMS isolates the powerhead from the transom to guarantee quiet operation at all velocities.
Gearcase Options
The Mercury Racing V10 400R comes with two different gearcase choices. The surface-piercing, race-proven Sport Master gearcase has low water pick-ups and a crescent leading edge to optimise speed and efficiency. It is designed for boats that can travel faster than 85 mph. Heavy bay boats and multi-engine performance centre console boats that require a more submerged gearcase and profit from more stern lift are perfect candidates for the Mercury Racing 5.44 HD gearcase option. A 1.60:1 gear ratio is present in both available gearcases. For either gearcase, a variety of performance-tested Mercury Racing propellers are offered, enabling customers to maximise the performance of particular boats and engine combos. A new line of 15-inch-diameter, four-bladed custom propellers will be added to Mercury Racing's collection.

Technology Solutions
Mercury Racing uses technological methods to improve boating. The Mercury Racing Digital Zero Effort controls can be installed on the V10 400R engine, which has the accuracy of Digital Throttle and Shift (DTS). In order to maintain boat authority with less control input, adaptive speed control maintains engine RPM as load changes as a result of changes in sea conditions or turning maneuvers. On boats outfitted with power-hungry electronics and audio, a strong 150-amp alternator, which has more than twice the charging capacity of the L6 400R system, aids in maintaining battery charge. At all velocities, the option of electro-hydraulic power steering improves boat control and operator comfort. All JPO-equipped (Joystick Piloting for Outboards) boats will come standard with a novel electric steering system option. Electric steering, which is self-contained on the steering ram, provides improved response and precision in low-speed JPO manoeuvres. All Mercury SmartCraft technologies, such as the Engine Guardian monitor system and VesselView multi-function screens, are supported by the 400R model. By enabling quick access to the oil dipstick and filling without removing the cowl, the top cowl service door, a first in the industry, simplifies regular maintenance.
Color Options
The Mercury Racing V10 400R model comes in three different colours: Phantom Black, Cold Fusion White, and Devil Eye Red trim, all completed with Mercury Racing graphics. The Phantom Black V10 400R is also offered "ready for paint" with no applied graphics or trim panels for boaters who intend to apply custom paint. After custom painting, graphics and an application mask are included for placement.
The Mercury Racing V10 400R comes with a three-year limited factory warranty and a five-year extended factory warranty called Mercury Product Protection. Visit MercuryRacing.com to learn more about the Mercury Racing Wide Open way of living and all of the company's high-performance products.
