Rolling in the Deep… Eyebrows!

Adele has hit the top of the charts again - but this time the singing superstar has her eyebrows to thank rather than her voice.

The 34 year-old radically revamped her look after divorce from Simon Konecki last year, and now her trendsetting makeover brows have caught the eye of the nation's fashionistas.

The nation's biggest eyebrow transplant clinic network has revealed the ‘Adele brow’ is the number one choice for clients.

"The Adele brow has become the leading request for 2023," said Marie Royce, aesthetician at The Wimpole Clinic, the nation's biggest eyebrow transplant clinic network.

"Thousands of clients come through our doors and we keep a careful tally of what motivates their surgery.

"Meghan Markle and Cara Delevingne have been dominant names in the past.

"But Adele's radical transformation is now the leading reason people are looking for eyebrow treatments."

Paparazzi pictures of Adele leaving a concert in the capital last year inspired her new look.

The star was quoted in a Grazia magazine interview last year recalling her horror at the shots:

"I saw a picture of me leaving a Lady Gaga gig in London and I looked like an elfling or something."

"During lockdown I started to dye my own brows. I used to get them done every week, because I really am quite fair. During the pandemic, I did a load of research, I watched YouTube videos, bought all the products from Amazon. I do it once a week on my own now.'

The eyebrows perform a unique role in defining how our brains interpret the shape of the human face.

Adele gained heartthrob status by reshaping her brows and changing their tone.

"A darker brow will frame and define and the face far more distinctly," said Marie Royce.

"A fuller brow will generally make your face appear younger, Adele will know that, and also that brows with a softer counter will improve an angular face. Adding a sharper angle into a brow will make a rounder face look better."

Adele had also revealed that if she doesn't dye her eyebrows it dramatically changes her looks.

“I love a good brow,” she said at the time, “If I don't dye my brows, I look like Voldemort. They go so pale and blonde.”

Eyebrow trends have oscillated in past decades between the pencil-thin look, popularised by Twiggy in the 1960s, to the bushy Brooke Shields brows of the 1980s — and everything in between.

Popular eyebrow enhancement techniques such as lamination or microblading can enhance the shape of the brow but not replicate the defining thickness of the 'Adele brow'.

An eyebrow transplant - where clinicians take hair from the back of the patient’s scalp and implant it into the brow - is the only way to radically transform a fuller look.

The transplant trend first gained traction after Chrissy Teigen told her 40 million followers on Instagram that an eyebrow transplant saved her from having to wear so much makeup.

The Wimpole Clinic has revealed that the surgery has had a 87% uptick in demand nationwide since their first procedure in 2002.

James Walton, head of sales at the Wimpole Clinic, said that Adele has transformed demand in recent months.

"We spend a long time on consultations with patients before they make the decision to proceed.

"A careful analysis of their confidence in the procedure, how much they know about the technique, and what their motives are, are all undertaken.

"We get a very clear idea of what motivates patients and Adele has inspired a new generation of ladies."
