Second European Project in the Picturesque Wine Capital of the World.
The Golf Du Médoc Resort, a top golf and wine destination in Bordeaux, France, has joined The Cabot Collection's portfolio. The Cabot Collection develops and operates opulent resort and residential golf locations. Nestled between rolling vineyards and stunning French countryside, the 400 acres of lush land that make up the alluring property, now known as Cabot Bordeaux, are breathtaking. Cabot has reached a major milestone by expanding its global reach to include its first facility in continental Europe.
"Bordeaux holds a special place in the hearts of travellers worldwide, known not only for its rich history and stunning landscapes but also for its remarkable culinary offerings and universally revered wine," said Ben Cowan-Dewar, CEO and co-founder of Cabot. "We are thrilled to now have a presence in this iconic destination and look forward to offering guests unforgettable experiences that seamlessly blend exploration and cultural immersion with world-class golf."
Cabot Bordeaux, tucked away in the picturesque southwest of France, offers a perfect balance of opulent wine country refinement and relaxed charm. Two championship 18-hole golf courses created by well-known architects Bill Coore and Rod Whitman are included on the site. Golf Magazine and Golf Digest have both rated these courses as some of the greatest in Europe. The resort also has a world-class spa with a heated indoor pool, hammam, fitness centre, and a range of treatments, as well as a 79-room hotel and an elegant restaurant serving local French cuisine. The TaylorMade fitting room, practice course layout, golf simulation rooms, and other amenities are all included in the Bernard Pascassio Training Centre.
"Anyone playing Cabot Bordeaux is going to enjoy a distinctly French experience," said Bill Coore, golf course architect. "Going from Cabot Cape Breton to Cabot Highlands to Cabot Saint Lucia to Cabot Bordeaux offers experiences that are as different and as varied as you could ever imagine."
Playing at Cabot Bordeaux feels like travelling back in time. Its courses honour what might have been by exquisitely capturing the spirit of French golf architecture. Until World War I halted this momentum, the early 20th century golf course design community thought France was the next frontier for outstanding work. Nevertheless, designers such as Tom Simpson were able to recognise noteworthy plots of land, design strategically rich courses, and honour the heyday of architecture. To get back in touch with this past, Bill Coore and Rod Whitman established their connections in the 1980s. Cabot will restore the unquestionable quality and toughness of both courses.
In order to guarantee that visitors create lifelong memories, veteran general manager Vincent Paris sets the scene. The historic beauty of the resort will be preserved as it is renovated with modern design features. New activities tailored to the area, enhanced facilities, and the same unshakeable dedication to excellence that has come to define the Cabot brand are all things that visitors can anticipate from their stay. Leading UK-based design company Russell Sage Studio will oversee interior design upgrades.
"I am thrilled to be part of the transformation of Cabot Bordeaux," said Russell Sage, founder of Russell Sage Studio. "We are excited to collaborate with local artisans to infuse the project with a distinct sense of place. The property will seamlessly blend modern and classic design elements, offering guests a home away from home enriched with unforgettable golf, dining, and opportunities for relaxation."
Known as the world's wine capital, Bordeaux is renowned for having more than 250,000 acres of vines that provide a wide variety of highly acclaimed wines. In addition, the location has stunning quays, an abundance of historical sites, museums, and castles, as well as a high-speed rail network that makes visiting nearby towns simple. The mediaeval hamlet of Saint-Émilion, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its 2,000-year history of vineyards and subterranean wine caves, is only a short drive from the resort. The resort is situated twenty minutes south of the Bordeaux-Merignac international airport, and a two-hour train trip will take you to Paris.
