Doctor Who's futuristic Whomobile, Bessie and Original Dalek at Beaulieu.

A new temporary display that will feature the most iconic cars from the well-known British science fiction series Doctor Who will soon be unveiled at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu. This show will allow visitors to experience a journey across time and space. This collection, which spans from the sleek and stylish Bessie to the futuristic Whomobile and a terrifying Dalek, will be available to tourists beginning on November 23, 2023. It is a celebration of the sixty-first anniversary of the Who series.

When it comes to the lineup, there is none other than Bessie, the reliable yellow roadster that the Third Doctor drives. In the beginning of 1970, Bessie made her debut in the television series Doctor Who and the Silurians. Alongside Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor, she went on to make numerous appearances. Additionally, it was featured in individual episodes of each of the Fourth, Seventh, Eighth, and Eleventh Doctor storylines. Bessie has become connected with the adventures of the Doctor to the extent that fans of the classic era are familiar with her by now.

The exhibit travels back in time to the 1970s and introduces the Whomobile, a vehicle designed specifically for the Doctor by the inventive minds at UNIT, which stands for the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce. In addition to being a sleek combination of elegance and practicality, the Whomobile is a demonstration of the Doctor's capacity to travel throughout the universe. The first time it was seen was in the transmission of Invasion of the Dinosaurs, which took place in January and February of 1974. An additional appearance of the vehicle was made in Planet of the Spiders, which was the final adventure for Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor and would see him regenerate into Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor. This was the only other time the vehicle was seen.

Finally, a real Dalek, the legendary extraterrestrial baddies who have been striking fear into the hearts of Doctor Who fans for decades, is included in the show. This Dalek brings an air of horror to the display. All of the classic Doctor Who Dalek episodes, with the exception of one, featured the Dalek that is currently on exhibit. The National Motor Museum will offer fans a rare chance to see the intricate details of Dalek design up close. Visitors will get the opportunity to come face to face with one of the most dangerous adversaries of the Doctor, and the museum is happy to be able to give this opportunity.

Beaulieu’s Lord Montagu is an avid ‘Whovian’. He was a founder member of the Doctor Who Restoration Team, a group of fans instrumental in restoring old episodes recovered from various sources in less than perfect condition. He said ‘I am delighted to be hosting this display of Doctor Who props in the programme’s 60th anniversary year. I am sure it will bring great joy to our visitors and bring back memories of watching the Saturday evening episodes, perhaps for some from behind the sofa.’

The exhibition will be on display until the end of February 2024, and entry to Beaulieu is included in the price of purchasing a regular admission ticket. Access to the National Motor Museum, World of Top Gear, On Screen Cars, Palace House, Secret Army exhibition, Beaulieu Abbey, its grounds and gardens, including the adventure play area Little Beaulieu, as well as unlimited trips on the Monorail and Veteran Bus are all included in this package.
