Dreams in Colours: A one-of-a-kind Inspiration Car
The names of the days of the week in the dynamic Southeast Asian country of Thailand come from Sanskrit and, like Western day names, are derived from the names of the planets and the Sun. Each planet, however, has a deity watching over it in old Hindu astrology, and that deity has a colour associated with it.
The day of the week a person is born on is also considered significant in Thai society, just as the date of birth is in many other societies. Ask any Thai individual their birth date, and you'll likely get an immediate answer based on the colour they wore on that day. This practise is less common today.
Porsche made a one-of-a-kind Porsche 911 Carrera GTS 30 Years Porsche Thailand Edition to celebrate 30 years of unwavering service in Thailand. The car combines German precision engineering with Thai culture.
Porsche, the dream-driven brand, collaborated with its in-house "dream division," Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, to create this Edition, engineering cutting-edge personalization choices in homage to Thailand's vibrant culture.
"The values that make up the Porsche DNA – pioneering spirit through heritage and innovation in perfect harmony – are thoroughly aligned with the values of Thai people, honouring their rich history but at the cutting edge of modern technology," said Mr. Hannes Ruoff, CEO of Porsche Asia Pacific on this remarkable collection.
"With this Porsche 911 Carrera GTS 30 Years Porsche Thailand Edition, we pay tribute to this amazing country that has been so welcoming to our brand, and that keeps inspiring us with its vibrant culture and people that are truly driven by their dreams," Mr. Ruoff continued.
The 30 Years Porsche Thailand Edition 911 Carrera GTS is as rich in tradition and craftsmanship as the nation it was named after. The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS served as inspiration for this line because it is an iconic combination of style and performance, much like Thailand's rich heritage. Seven iconic Paint to Sample (PTS) colours, one for each day of the week in Thai culture, will be available for customization of the special edition 911 Carrera GTS models.
The PTS colours in the 911 Carrera GTS 30 Years Porsche Thailand Edition range are listed below:
Monday (Yellow) – Signalyellow
Tuesday (Pink) – Rubystar
Wednesday (Green) – Signalgreen
Thursday (Orange) – Pastelorange
Friday (Blue) – Rivierablue
Saturday (Purple) – Ultraviolet
Sunday (Red) – Firered
There is a lot of craftsmanship and precision involved in making a Paint to Sample colour. The paints must be mixed with extreme precision and professional knowledge.
Each coat of paint is custom-made from scratch using a sample of the intended colour as a guide. Porsche's Exclusive Manufaktur colour jobs are all executed with painstaking precision. Throughout the entire process, vehicles are closely monitored by colourists, and a thorough final visual inspection of the paint is carried out by experts under a number of controlled circumstances.
Paint to Sample elevates the already impressive 911 Carrera GTS 30 Years Porsche Thailand Edition by giving each car an individual personality based on the buyer's taste from among seven external colour options.
Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur's highly trained artisans and craftspeople didn't stop with the exterior paint finishes when they set out to make the 911 Carrera GTS 30 Years Porsche Thailand Edition one-of-a-kind.
The 20- and 21-inch Turbo S centre lock wheels that come standard on the Carrera GTS are completed in a one-of-a-kind black/exterior colour two-tone that perfectly complements the car's exterior. The brake callipers are also painted black, but the Porsche badge on the centre caps of the wheels adds a dash of colour to the otherwise understated design.
Black high-gloss contrast finishes on the car's exterior, like the SportDesign front apron, front intakes, side window sills, rear apron inlays, rear lid inlays, and exterior mirrors, give it an understated look of athletic prowess. The B supports are adorned with a special "30 Years Porsche Thailand Edition" plaque.
The five slats on the driver's side of the trunk lid are painted red, white, and blue to match the colours of the Thai flag, which is another artistic detail that gives tribute to Thailand. Lastly, the trim identifying the model has been updated to a more modern and understated '911' logo.
The car's interior also features a number of unique details, such as a passenger and centre console finished with contrasting trim pieces in the same colour as the car's exterior. A special anniversary logo is stitched onto each of the headrests, and the luxury black leather seats are accented with Black corduroy inlays, Pebble Grey seat pipings, and contrast stitching. The door sill guards, centre armrest, and passenger compartment all feature anniversary messaging. The top section of the dashboard, the door panels, and the rear side trim are accented with a cross-stitching pattern in Pebble Grey.
In addition to the launch of the 911 Carrera GTS 30 Years Porsche Thailand Edition, Porsche also revealed a one-of-a-kind Inspiration Car at a spectacular gala event celebrating 30 Years of Porsche in Thailand at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.
The body and paint experts at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur meticulously hand-painted the Inspiration Car in all seven colours. The one-off vehicle boldly displays all of the colours that will be included in the Edition collection of 911 Carrera GTS 30 Years Porsche Thailand Models, as well as all of the artistic elements that will be featured on the exterior and interior of the special model.
