Growing Number of Hiking Trails in the Middle East.
Within the Hadramout area of Yemen, the adventure travel business Untamed Borders is introducing a brand new hiking tour that offers a pioneering new experience.
With portions of the route snaking in and out of the region's date palm lined wadis and across its desert landscapes, the first of the new hiking tours will begin in January 2025 in the eastern part of the nation. This will be the first of several new hiking tours.
Together with our Yemeni staff, one of Untamed Borders' international hiking guides conducted a comprehensive inspection of the trails throughout the winter of 2024.
There is an increasing tendency among trekkers in the Middle East to look for new routes, and the new Yemeni route is not an exception to this trend.
In the past several years, new trail networks have been established in the Sinai Peninsula and the Zagros Mountains, which are located in Kurdistan, which is located in Northern Iraq. All of this is a contribution to a broader endeavour known as the Abraham Path.
Freya Stark, a well-known British-Italian explorer, journeyed through the region in the 1930s and chronicled her journey in a book titled "A Winter in Arabia - A Journey Through Yemen." The current Yemeni walk that Untamed Borders is planning is a continuation of Stark's journey.
The pioneering hiking treks will take place in the eastern part of Yemen, which is located a significant distance away from the flashpoints in the Houthi-controlled western region surrounding Sana'a. This is despite the fact that Yemen has been experiencing instability and violence in recent years.
Back in 2019, the firm started providing cultural excursions to the mainland of Yemen, and ever since then, they have been coming back, including during the beginning of this year.
In addition, Untamed Borders provides trips to the island of Socotra, which is located in Yemen and is referred to as the Galapagos of the Indian Ocean owing to the vast amount of wildlife that it contains.
The Wakhan Corridor in Afghanistan, the Pamir Mountain Lakes area of Tajikistan, and the wilds of Kyrgyzstan are all destinations that Untamed Borders has previously established as destinations for their exciting trekking safaris.
